OPERATOR-AGNOSTIC
Bring Your Own Network: Why Operator-Agnostic Beats a Single Global Operator
The two models of global connectivity
When a business wants to offer mobile connectivity across many countries, it faces a choice between two very different models. The first is to plug into a single global operator: one provider, one network, one agreement. The second is to use an operator-agnostic platform that sits on top of many networks – including networks and suppliers you already have. The difference sounds subtle. Commercially, it is enormous.
A single global operator is convenient to start with, but you are reselling their network on their terms. Coverage, quality and pricing are whatever they choose to offer; your roadmap is tied to theirs; and if you ever want to switch, you start over. That caps your margin and your control – and it is the model most “global connectivity” vendors sell.
Extrafon’s model: bring your own network
Extrafon takes the opposite approach. We are not another single operator – we are the neutral Assets Management Platform that lets a service provider interconnect their own mobile network(s) and their own wholesale data suppliers, blend them with Extrafon’s 800+ networks, and manage, steer and resell all of it from one place. You keep the customer relationship, the brand and the margin; Extrafon handles the telecom plumbing underneath.
Concretely, that means you can:
- Plug in your own core. Connect your MNO or MVNO core into the platform via RADIUS/AAA, VPN, direct connect / IPX and roaming (bilateral / IR.21) agreements – your subscribers, your network, our reach beyond your footprint.
- Aggregate your wholesale suppliers. Bring multiple wholesale mobile-data providers under one roof and blend them with Extrafon’s networks, so you are never locked to a single supplier’s coverage or price.
- Steer traffic intelligently. Route each SIM and eSIM to the best network by coverage, quality, cost-per-MB and usage limits, with automatic failover – the essence of resilient multi-network connectivity.
- Bill it all as one. Consolidated charging and reconciliation across every supplier and network: many suppliers in, one bill out.
Why this matters for your business
Owning the interconnect layer changes the economics. Instead of buying finished connectivity at a fixed margin, you assemble it from the best and cheapest sources for each market – your own network where you have one, wholesale where it is competitive, and Extrafon’s reach everywhere else. You capture the spread, and you are not exposed if any single supplier raises prices or degrades service. For an operator with a home network, it is the fastest route to becoming a global service provider without building international infrastructure.
Everything else the platform does
Bringing your own network is only useful if you can operate it. The Extrafon Assets Management Platform gives you the full operational stack: complete eSIM lifecycle management and over-the-air provisioning, dynamic control of data, SMS and voice per SIM, real-time monitoring and troubleshooting, reporting and analytics, prepaid online charging and billing, multi-tenant management of your own customers and resellers, automation and usage caps, and security controls such as private APNs and IMEI locking. Deliver it as physical SIMs, eSIMs or embedded MFF2 modules, sell through a branded eCommerce store, and embed everything in your own systems through full REST APIs.
Who it is for
The operator-agnostic model suits anyone whose advantage is customers, not infrastructure: MVNOs and regional operators extending beyond their home footprint; resellers and white-label brands that want control over sourcing and margin; IoT and travel-eSIM businesses that need the best network in every market; and enterprises consolidating connectivity from several suppliers into one managed estate. If your growth depends on being locked to one network, you have the wrong platform. If it depends on choosing the best of many – including your own – that is exactly what Extrafon enables.
